The casing is metal and a tight fit, the rechargeable battery can be replaced NiMH AAA700mAh 1.2v and the light surprisingly bright for the size. I have not yet been able to determine how many hours it stays lid at night, because I tend to get outside too late, but there always seems to be some battery capacity left in the morning. So, it seems to stay on 810 hours. I didnt want throwaway solar lights and am happy with my purchase.
