This review is for the black version of the desk lamp.I produce very detailed artworks sitting at a desk so good light, preferably day light, is essential for accurate colour reproduction. Over the years Ive tried many different forms of artificial lighting. Ive found that standard, household incandescent lamps tungsten halogen just dont produce a satisfactory colour of light for me and besides they waste a lot of energy due to heat losses. Many of the compact fluorescent lamps Ive tried have produced a warm, yellowish light, not suitable for my work but okay for most general living spaces, and they seem to take ages to warm up to their brightest light output. Here are findings my which I hope will enable you to decide if this desk lamp is right for you.Disadvantages1. Large base bulky appearance takes up a lot of room on desk 24 x 17.5 cm approx fairly unattractive.2. Onoff switch position under lamp head unit okay for me but could be difficult for people with poor contrast vision, I think it would be better if the rocker switch was on the base.3. Replacement lamp cost at present, about 25 of whole lamp unit cost. But if the lamp lasts for years, lamp life supposedly 8000 hours, then the cost is irrelevant.Advantages1. No assembly required just remove packaging from around lamp.2. Study base and strong, flexible arm which appears to be good quality.3. Fairly long power cord about 170 cm 67 inches from base to mains plug4. Nonflickering bright daylight lamp according to the manufacturer, the lamp colour effect is daylight at noon.5. Flood light effect gives a good light over whole desk area rectangular lamp head unit is quite large, at about 24 cm long.I have only been using this desk lamp for a short time so I cannot comment on the life of the lamp or the unit only time will tellFor my task lighting I need a bright, whitish light which is instantly available the Lifemax 251.2, Desktop High Vision Reading Light seems to fulfil these requirements.Overall, I feel the advantages of this product far outweigh the disadvantages and so I would happily recommend it.
