The plug was broken. The lamp had been unpacked and assembled and the plug was the last item to take out of the packaging, only to find that it was smashed. One pin was flattened and looked as if it had been stood on. I really couldnt go to all the bother of taking it apart and repacking and returning it, so an electrician friend cut it off and put a new one on. But it clearly hadnt been properly inspected as it should never have been sent out with a broken plug.

Great little light. Very simple. If this is the look you want you wont be disapointed. Other people have said it gets hot. Mine gets as hot as any other fitting with this kind of lamp in. Nothing unusual and certainly wouldnt burn you but as with all lights I wouldnt cover it.
