I unpacked the sensor, pulled out the battery tab and the light glowed, opened the Alexa app, searched for devices and it was found immediately. I set up a routine with the intention to switch on my porch light as a I walked down the stairs of an upstairs flat. Repeatedly shouting to Alexa in the other room was becoming a mundane affair.Inside the packaging is a strong magnetic button which can be screwed into a surface. The unit then fits into the button and holds firmly in place. I believe they used to come with magnetic domes so that the unit could could be adjusted to point in any direction. Now they only sit flush on the button pointing straight ahead, so I suspect that the field of view was improved. Despite the button magnet being effective, the unit does sit a few centimeters from the wall, so it pops out quite a bit. Since I wanted mine to sit flush with the banister rails on a small ledge, I opted to fit mine without the magnet and use white BluTak instead to secure it as pictured.After setting up the Routine in the Alexa app to switch on my porch light upon detecting motion and with the unit fitted in place, the light switched on as I passed down the stairs. Success However, it was not switching off after the stated minute. After 20 minutes of experimenting, I realized that Rerun Routine after 1 min was not the option to switch off the light. Instead I discovered that I had to set up another Routine to switch OFF the light. After setting a Routine to switch off the light when the sensor detect NO MOTION for 1 minute, it was working flawlessly. I pass, it switches on and after 1 minute of no motion, it switches off.Im really pleased with this and its made my already smart house even smarter. This technology is really impressing me and its making life all the more convenient The only criticism, is that even though I put the sensor up a reasonable height in a bid to counteract this, the sensor will still activate the light when my cat ventures down the stairs. I am aware that Philips have taken note of this after reading a post on their forum, so it might be a feature they will have in a later model, or better still, it might simply be an option we can select in the Alexa App.If youre wanting a bit more automation in your smart home, this is the kit for you. Have a think. Youre bound to have some sort of use for one
