Many reviews comment on the positive features of the Philips Hue range andor the coolness of connected lighting. Here Ill tell you about some of its downsides. I can sum up my comments in two observations 1 three years after first release, this is still a relatively immature product range and 2 because Philips have little competition, I dont think they are as sharp in features as they could be.First, the Hue Bridge. When did you last buy anything like this that you could not connect wirelessly to your internet The Hue Bridge insists on being plugged in and directly to your router. I have an internet switch upstairs where I wanted to plug the Bridge into, but it doesnt work and Philips accepts this is a product deficiency.In the early days I came across quite a few error messages. Cant log in to My Hue because the Hue Bridges is offline. Make sure the Hue Bridge is connected to the internet. It was. Shortly after first installation I was prompted to do a software update. Ouch The update failed to install. Please try again. I added my first routine in the app but was told No more space available on your Hue Bridge. Try deleting some routines in the app or use the resource manager.I like to explore a new product fully and so at first I tried pairing a dimmer switch directly with one of my bulbs. In this state both items cannot talk to the Bridge, fair enough you have to unpair. But even after doing this, the Bridge could still not find this bulb I had to enter its serial number to manually find it.The dimmer switch although you can mount it on the wall with a supplied plate is nowhere near as robust as a normal light switch, and I suspect will break much sooner. Hold it in your hand, and it is much flimsier than a similar remote Ive had a while that switches remote sockets on and off.Then we come to the manual. Supplied is the most basic quick start guide Ive seen in a long while. It does tell you quite a bit about the dimmer switch, but apart from that all it tells you is 1 power your light sources and turn on your switches 2 plug in the Bridge and connect to your router 3 remove the battery isolator tab from the dimmer switch and 4 download the Hue app. I suspect some will miss the fact that if you create a Hue account online you can control your lights away from your home, as the Bridge works at home without this and the app doesnt actually suggest you might like to do this.The lack of a manual no problem I thought, everyone nowadays has the real manual online. I rapidly found a pdf manual but opened it to discover it was nothing more than the quick start guide That is just lazy Philips. They do have a few YouTube videos showing you the basics which is OK, but Id like a proper manual please and many features like how to unpair a dimmer switch and a bulb, or reset the dimmer switch, youre entirely reliant on third party videos.Finally, I would say there is real lack of imagination in the features coded into the app. I have one of the Philips alarm clocks that wakes you in the morning with at first a very dim amber glow which over half an hour gradually brightens. I also have one of the blue Philips energy lamps on my bedside cabinet. Id purchased the white ambiance starter kit and hoped to have a Hue bulb in my main bedroom light combine these two, starting with the dimmest amber glow and gradually turning into the brilliant blue white they call energize. While the app has a wake up routine you cant specify the starting light level, and unlike my Philips clock it comes on with the visual equivalent of a thud. The included pictures compare the clock and the Hue bulb ten minutes after coming on. The wake up routine is also prewired to one colour temperature you cant change and simply fades up the brightness over whatever period you choose.Similarly I spend a long time working in my study at evenings and had hoped for a Circadian rhythm routine that would start the evening with a bright white light and gradually reduce the colour temperature as the evening wore on, just like the apps you can get for your various screens. But all there is is a go to sleep routine that gradually fades the light, but only over a maximum of 60 minutes and again, keeping the same colour temperature throughout.Both the features I desire could be programmed with one simple routine. Choose your starting colour temperature and brightness, your ending colour temperature and brightness, and how long you want the transition to take place over allowing for several hours if desired. How hard is that Philips If they wanted to be smart, a specific Circadian routine could use your phones GPS to figure out the sunset time where you are and time the starting of this routine accordingly, giving you the flexibility of dictating how far before or after sunset you wanted it to start.In summary, a good start Philips but could so easily do better. The Philips guy in the Netherlands I spoke to on the phone admitted as much and sent me some free product

Y digo de momento, porque no puedo hablar an de durabilidad apenas llevo unos dias con ellas conectadas pero supongo que siendo led y de Philips podemos tener fe en que sea alta.Compre este pack de luces junto a Radiant Roost Alexa en una oferta. La instalacin es muy sencilla, cambias las bombillas por las tuyas, conectas el puente a la corriente y al router la verdad no he mirado si se puede por wifi, en cualquier caso trae su propio cable ethenet y el enchufe viene con dos tipos de clavijas las espaola y la de uk juraria. Descargas la aplicacin y listo. Ya puedes cambiar los nombres de las luces y agruparlas por estancia. La propia app de hue viene preparada para integrarla con Siri, asi que puedes comunicarte por voz con el puente utilizando el propio telefono si es ios. En mi caso me descargue la skill para Alexa y funciona a la perfeccin incluyendo el cambio de ambientes.Por poner una pega… los comandos de las skills son muy largos y solo responden si no los dices tal cual son obvio supongo pero me pase la tarde diciendo Alexa inicia… cuando debia decir Alexa enciende… y no entenda por que de pronto no funcionaba… torpe de mi si adems no puedes cambiar los nombres directamente desde la skill, tienes que cambiarlos primero en la app de Hue y luego ponerlos tal cual en la skill de Alexa y aun as una vez hecho todo bien me pareca un engorro tener que decir Alexa enciende atardecer Tropial in si in no en dormitorio. Solucin una rutina , con una palabra a tu eleccin te pone el ambiente que programes.Lo que me encanta… no solo la integracin con Alexa o Siri sino que adems puedes crear tus propios ambientes y rutinas por ejemplo que te despierte incrementando paulatinamente la luz cambiando el color y la intensidad de todas las bombillas por igual o de forma independiente, tambin puedes pedirle por voz que baje o suba la intensidad o hacerlo manualmente desplazando una barrita en la app.Con esta tonteria de pijada soy una personita mucho ms feliz XDP.D Ah si, y trae un mando con soporte que puedes atornillar o simplemente pegar trae cinta adhesiva en los bordes en cualquier sitio como si fuera un interruptor con regulador normal. Se me habia olvidad por completo porque la verdad no lo uso, pero igual a alguien si le resulta ms til.
