I purchased this item to use with the auraglow bulb. The jaws on the clamp open about 1 and they have rubber inner jaws so that it doesnt damage the surface it is clamped to. I would buy this product again.

These things are not sturdy and fall over very easily and mine has tipped over during video meetings a lot and even hit me on the face once. I also knew that I was in trouble when I started using duct tape on the first use. I did not find it easy to adjust at all. If you want something cheap and you dont mind the lack of stability, I have to say the brightness is great. If you need something thats going to stand up to tiny movements on a desk or not come apart if you frequently transport it then do NOT get this. Spend a little extra money and get some thing sturdier.
